We went to see The Jersey Boys at the Prince Edward Theatre in London on Friday 14th May 2010. An uplifting experience!
The Jersey Boys tells the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons; from their difficult start ‘on the wrong side of the tracks’ in an Italian neighbourhood in Newark, New Jersey, through their early successes, their personal struggles, the difficulties between them and their long run of hits, particularly in the early sixties. They sold over 100 million records and this show has been seen by four million people worldwide.
Their story was told in the first person by each of the four band members and was wrapped by the singing of their songs. All their major hits were sung and had the mature audience bopping in their seats. I do not know these songs well enough to be able to compare the singing to the originals but the cast were good musicians and great singers and they loved what they were doing. Their joy rolled off the stage and created a wonderful upbeat happy atmosphere. We went home humming and happy.
