Tibby, David, Pat and I visited Neethlingshof Wine Estate in Stellenbosch on 28th December 2010. We liked their Pinotage and Malbec.
The approach to the estate is along a long tree lined drive which is very attractive. The tasting room is pleasant but not special. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable.
We found their Sauvignon Blanc 2010 too fruity for our taste. Their Merlot 2007 and Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 were pleasant. Their Bordeaux blend, The Caracal, (Cabernet Sauvignon 60%, Merlot 30%, Malbec 5% and Cabernet Franc 5%) was pleasant but too complex for us. The winners were their Pinotage 2005 and their Malbec 2010 (David dissenting on the latter).
These wines were all priced at a reasonable R60 per bottle except for The Caracal at R125. Nice reasonably priced easy drinking wines.
